I’m not sure why the Vick’s thing is suddenly news. Vick’s has always had a warning that says not to put it directly into the nose.

In an odd reprise of the one-year anniversary of the Cassie Edwards scandal, the Vicks VapoRub study was done in ferrets.* (I’d say “Take that Mrs. G.”, except apparently she’s not reading DA for the next 2 weeks because of all of us losers who impose on Jane by posting here.)

*The article didn’t specify if the ferrets were blackfooted or not.

I’ve only read the first Julia Spencer-Fleming book, so I won’t go read the interview for fear of spoilers. But I do plan to read them all! I’ve had good luck with Keishon’s mystery recs. (Though I haven’t read that Karin Slaughter series and now won’t be able to bring myself to.)

Thank you Jane! I love how DA has introduced me to so many good books and authors. It was a review here by Janine (I think) that directed me to Julia Spencer Fleming’s first book In the Bleak Midwinter. I have been glooming her with intent and am just about to start the fourth book, once I finish CS Harris’ What Angels Fear (WAF). And it was Jennie, reviewing CS Harris’ When Serpents Sleep that introduced me to CS Harris. I’m about 40 pages from the end of WAF and very frustrated that I have to stop reading to work :) I’m rapt to have found both authors, so thank you all!

Am off to read the Julia Spencer Fleming review now :)

Actually, Amazon has been charging NY residents sales tax since the suit began in the summer. Although I believe Overstock, who was also originally part of the suit, has been holding off on charging the taxes. It will be interesting to see how this one comes out.

All time favorite author? Lois McMaster Bujold. Someone once wrote me that Clare Fergusson reminded them of Cordelia Naismith Vorkosigan and I just about died from pleasure. I own every single book LMB has ever written and I reread them every year. If I ever meet her at a conference I’ll probably pass out on the spot. I hope I don’t drool on the rug.

I knew there was a good reason why I latched on to Spencer-Fleming so readily. Well, the great writing might have had something to do with it.

I thought Rachel’s interview with Julia Spencer-Fleming was fabulous. It’s rare that you see such thought-provoking questions or such thoughtful answers. Rachel and Julia both did an amazing job.
