I once tried to read a litfic novel with no quotes (and virtually no other punctuation), and within fifteen minutes I had a headache. I couldn’t be bothered to read past page 10.

And it’s not that I don’t enjoy demanding prose. But the narrative needs to flow, and it can’t flow if I have to stop all the time and decide whether a particular sentence or word is or isn’t dialogue.

Whatever drug these authors are self-medicating with, they need to cut it out…

Solely using periods, or a blend of periods and dashes, doesn’t create reading elegance. With the loss of quotation marks, I find a tale becomes a low drone of nothingness.

ugh, I couldn’t even read that Journal article. What a piece of fluff. And no mention of Anne Rice? Please. Vampires have been around as a sex symbol for over a century. Hello..Dracula?

Argh. The lack of punctuation was one of many things that annoyed me about The Road!
