The main thing that drew me to Allison Brennan is the relationship between the characters. The books build a history with the characters, I’ve just started book 13, the Lucy Kincaid Series. But I’ve already met her parents, brothers and sisters. I’ve met Lucy in a previous book and I already know of her trama. The male lead is Sean Rogan. I’ve already met him and his brothers. It’s like reading about people you already know.

Mariah Stewart and Karen Rose also build the relationships between characters. Aside from romantic suspence, I’m looking for books that have that continued feel. Authors that build the relationships between books.

I’m always looking for new authors and new series to read!

I’m glad I found this site, I’ve read through Allison Brennan, Karen Rose, Mariah Stewart and Brenda Novak. They are fantastic. I love series and sequels and always wish there was another to read. I’m always looking for a new book from my favorties or a new author.

Yes, Jeannie, I completely agree with you about the lights on bit and have been wracking my brain for another romantic suspense novelist that can be as dark/scary as AB. The closest I came to was the surgeon by tess gerritsen. I’d love to know if anybody knows of another.

Although of the list, Allison’s books are the only ones I have to read with the lights ON. :)

Michelle, thanks for joining in with more great suggestions. I agree that Allison’s books tend to be a bit darker. I love Nora Robert’s JD Robb books too. Those can get pretty gruesome but there’s a lot of humor in them as well.

I just love this feature.

I think of Allison Brennan as an author who writes romantic suspense that is pretty dark and more suspense than romance. Her characters are tough.

You may like Lisa Gardner’s romantic suspense novels. My personal favorite is The Perfect Husband, but I do tend to like more romance than suspense in my romantic suspense novels.

Annie Solomon’s Blackout has an amazing kick-butt heroine and great suspense, and this novel may appeal to fans of AB. (disclaimer: Annie is a friend)

Tess Gerritsen’s The Surgeon may appeal.

Marilyn Pappano’s romantic suspense novels from the mid-90′s (Passion, Suspicion) and Anne Stuart’s Onyx romantic suspense novels from the 90′s may also appeal.

I really enjoy Linda Howard and Nora Roberts’s romantic suspense novels, but they aren’t as dark as AB’s.

Finally, Dee Davis writes smart romantic suspense novels with more suspense than romance. (another friend)

Tae, you are right. I did forget Envy by Sandra Brown and that’s one I really liked as well. I’m also a big fan of Linda Howard and Kay Hooper. I haven’t tried Catherine Coulter yet, so thanks for the suggestion!

I’ll add Brenda Novak to the list. Just read TRUST ME and thought it was excellent. Great story, gripping suspense, layered characters, a la Allison Brennan.

oh my god you didn’t mention Envy by Sandra Brown, which is how I started reading her books and is still my favorite of all of her books

I think Iris Johansen and Linda Howard also write romantic suspense. I also liked the earlier Catherine Coulter FBI series with Sherlock and Savich. The more recent ones seem to have a little less romance in them. Julie Garwood’s contemporary focus more on FBI heroes and more feminine heroines. Kay Hooper’s Bishop FBI series takes a paranormal take on the romantic suspense genre (no vampires or werewolves, but psychics, telepaths and other ESP type skills)
