REVIEW: Son of the Sea by Nancy Holder

REVIEW: Son of the Sea by Nancy Holder

Dear Ms. Holder, />I’m afraid the merfolk romance is not for me. I’ve never been enchanted by merpeople and honestly, the thought of getting up close and personal with someone who has a fishtail weirds me out. It also makes me crave sushi, which weirds me out even more. I love sushi but not in [...]

REVIEW: Blame it on Paris by Jennifer Greene

REVIEW: Blame it on Paris by Jennifer Greene

Dear Ms Greene, Poor Paris, it always gets the blame for everything. And this time it’s at fault for bringing Kel and Will together. Not that it’s really Paris that does anything. More that it’s Kel’s fault for picking a bad neighborhood to rent a hotel room in and then taking all her important stuff [...]

Giant Dog Turd Sweeps Through Swiss Town

Giant Dog Turd Sweeps Through Swiss Town

File this under “you couldn’t make this crap (pun intended) up”. American artist Paul McCarthy created a giant inflatable dog turd called Complex Shit. It is supposed to deflate in bad weather but the failsafe program failed and the turd tore loose from its moorings and blew threw a Swiss town, knocking out a window [...]

REVIEW: Autumn Bride by Melinda Hammond

Dear Ms. Hammond, I discovered your novels while looking for more recommendations for quiet Regencies. I followed my own advice by checking out books at Regency Reads and voila, there you were. With the help of the very welcome first chapter excerpt offered there, I felt confident in selecting “Autumn Bride” from the list of [...]

Salon’s New Online Initiative Allows Tipping of Real Money

CNET has a report on Salon.com new media outlet whereby members of “Open Salon” can tip the bloggers with real-world money. Content with the most tips or the most popularity will make its way from the user-generated community to the front page of Salon.com. I’m still pondering whether I like this idea or not. On [...]

RWA Panel on Plagiarism

One of the search terms that brought a reader to the site in the past week was why plagiarism bothers authors. Given the size of the recent panel on plagiarism at RWA, it appears that it doesn’t bother some authors. Or is that the wrong assumption to draw? Needless to say, the panel was not [...]

GalleyCat had an interesting article regarding a contretemps involving author Michael Cisco and his publisher Prime Books. Prime Books is a small print publisher of science fiction, fantasy and horror fiction. Cisco complained that he hadn’t received any royalties from his last book. He determined from watching the traffic on Amazon that he must have sold [...]

New Literature Blog for the “Cutting Edge” Consumer

I read over at GalleyCat that a new book review blog is starting up called LitMob.com. It’s a very easy to look at blog that is well organized with the rankings easily identified on the left hand side with sparkling stars. The blog has some experienced individuals at its helm. The creators include Doug Perkul, [...]

REVIEW: Nicholas by Elizabeth Amber

Dear Ms. Amber: Once upon a time, my so called friend, Sarah, sent me a book to read. She had told me some bare details about it that raised my eyebrows and I started to read it when I received the book but it wasn’t intriguing enough to continue so I put it aside. But, [...]

Is Agent Editing Normal?

I read this on an agent blog today and light of the events that have happened to Sidney Somers at New Concepts Publishing, so I had to ask whether this is normal because it sounds strange to me. Apparently the agent has two clients who have started their own erotic epress. The agent is editing [...]

iPhone Sales, the Kill Switch, and Kindle Numbers

There have been rumors abounding that Apple has the ability to reach into your phone and remove applications. According to Gizmodo, Apple does indeed have a “kill switch” as they call it, ostensibly to protect iPhone owners such as in the case of a virus or something. I can’t say I like the idea that [...]
