The early dynamics between Emma and the Lykae flirted with the edge of TOO retro for me, and IMO the writing wasn't as strong

This sums up my "problems" with Hunger exactly.

I put Dark Deeds on my to-buy list now and will wait and see. Thanks again.

This series just keeps getting better. I usually don't like the ghost thing, but I have to say, I was completely satisfied with the way the problem was resolved. Usually by book six, a series starts to loose its luster and often seems repetative. This started to happen to me for Keynon's work and also Feehan's. Although there is a definite mold for Cole's heros, for some reason it seems fresh still. Each tortured soul pulls me right in, and the chemistry is always smoking. Perhaps as someone above noted, it is because the quirky gals keep bringing me back-- I mean I love the way they feel about the nymphs -- LOL.

I usually prefer vampires to wolves, but I have to say after rereading AHLNO, it really does fit well with the series, especially the development of Emma over the course of the book, from someone who telegraphs her punches to kicksass girl in the end.

I was so glad that Conrad and Neomi could find hapiness in the end. I am looking forward to the next story, and hopefully the novella that was supposed to be released will get sorted out. That looks like its Dani's and Murdoch's tale.

I hope those of you who are getting the book will comment when you're finished on what you thought of it. The only downside of having a review published before the book has been widely read is that we can't really talk much about it.

Taja: I was kind of "meh" about A Hunger Like No Other when I first read it, too. It wasn't until I read the novella and No Rest for the Wicked that I was fully on board with the series. The early dynamics between Emma and the Lykae flirted with the edge of TOO retro for me, and IMO the writing wasn't as strong as in the later books. I think, though, if I went back and re-read AHLNO now that I would have a totally different view of it.

I read A Hunger Like No Other and... Let's just say I wasn't nearly as "wowed" by it as a lot of other readers seemed to be. There were things I liked, but overall - no. So, I didn't buy the other novels. Now this review makes me consider trying this one at least.

Thanks for the review, Robin!

Well, I'm glad I won a copy. This review makes it sound like a wonderful novel. I also seem to need to make a trip to the library to read the rest of the series.

Yeah, but didn't you like "Snakes on a Plane," too? Now, if the strippers banded together to cheat their scumbag "manager" out of the piles of money he was making off the unashamed exploitation of their sexualized flesh, I might buy that ticket.

obviously not as thrilling as...MURDER!

I am rather charmed by the idea of taking time off from stripping and of rampaging strippers in general.

Nope--it is a reference to a film:

Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill! (1965)

Three strippers seeking thrills encounter a young couple in the desert. After dispatching the boyfriend, they take the girl hostage and begin scheming on a crippled old man living with his two sons in the desert, reputedly hiding a tidy sum of cash. They become houseguests of the old man and try and seduce the sons in an attempt to locate the money, not realizing that the old man has a few sinister intentions of his own.

Three wild women in three fast cars take time off from stripping in clubs to go on a murder rampage. They kidnap and drug the girlfriend of one of their victims and hole up at a secluded ranch owned by a wheelchair-bound man and his two sons.

I've been having some technical problems, and for some reason my review posted with some weird stuff I've been trying to fix. If you see any more missing italics or other strange stuff, please don't hesitate to comment on it.

katiebabs: for me this book is third after No Rest For The Wicked and the novella in Playing Easy to Get. Which means that my top three are the stories of the Wroth brothers, which is strange because I don't have a particular affinity to vamps. I agree with you, though, that this book was a bit darker in tone than the others, both from Neomi and Conrad's sides.

Ana: I hope you like it!

Gena: One of the things I admire about Cole as a writer is that her skills continue to get stronger and it shows. One of the things that influences me most as a reader is an author's growth as a craftsperson. Not every author grows in this way, and I know how much work it takes to strengthen one's writing, so it's something I always take as a sign of commitment, professionalism, and respect for the work.

Heather: I second Kirsten's recommendation to start at the beginning and not to miss the novella -- you have some great reads ahead of you!

Kirsten: Is that like "dance, monkey, dance"?

Rae: Isn't it great we have two almost back to back to read?!

JLFerg/Jill: I prefer to read these digitally, actually, because it makes it so much easier to review them when I can search electronically for stuff in the book. There are lots of things that cross-reference, and I love being able to search electronically -- beats the dog-eared pages!

Heather, I am so jealous that you get to start this series several books into it. What a treat! Make sure you begin with the short story in Playing Easy To Get.

Thanks for a wonderful review, Robin! Now, review faster kitty-kat, faster!
