I usually prefer vampires to wolves, but I have to say after rereading AHLNO, it really does fit well with the series, especially the development of Emma over the course of the book, from someone who telegraphs her punches to kicksass girl in the end.

I was so glad that Conrad and Neomi could find hapiness in the end. I am looking forward to the next story, and hopefully the novella that was supposed to be released will get sorted out. That looks like its Dani’s and Murdoch’s tale.

Taja: I was kind of “meh” about A Hunger Like No Other when I first read it, too. It wasn’t until I read the novella and No Rest for the Wicked that I was fully on board with the series. The early dynamics between Emma and the Lykae flirted with the edge of TOO retro for me, and IMO the writing wasn’t as strong as in the later books. I think, though, if I went back and re-read AHLNO now that I would have a totally different view of it.

“Dark Needs at Night’s Edge” [Romance/Dark Fantasy] by Kresley Cole

I am rather charmed by the idea of taking time off from stripping and of rampaging strippers in general.

Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill! (1965)

Three strippers seeking thrills encounter a young couple in the desert. After dispatching the boyfriend, they take the girl hostage and begin scheming on a crippled old man living with his two sons in the desert, reputedly hiding a tidy sum of cash. They become houseguests of the old man and try and seduce the sons in an attempt to locate the money, not realizing that the old man has a few sinister intentions of his own.

Three wild women in three fast cars take time off from stripping in clubs to go on a murder rampage. They kidnap and drug the girlfriend of one of their victims and hole up at a secluded ranch owned by a wheelchair-bound man and his two sons.

katiebabs: for me this book is third after No Rest For The Wicked and the novella in Playing Easy to Get. Which means that my top three are the stories of the Wroth brothers, which is strange because I don’t have a particular affinity to vamps. I agree with you, though, that this book was a bit darker in tone than the others, both from Neomi and Conrad’s sides.

Gena: One of the things I admire about Cole as a writer is that her skills continue to get stronger and it shows. One of the things that influences me most as a reader is an author’s growth as a craftsperson. Not every author grows in this way, and I know how much work it takes to strengthen one’s writing, so it’s something I always take as a sign of commitment, professionalism, and respect for the work.

Heather: I second Kirsten’s recommendation to start at the beginning and not to miss the novella — you have some great reads ahead of you!

Rae: Isn’t it great we have two almost back to back to read?!

JLFerg/Jill: I prefer to read these digitally, actually, because it makes it so much easier to review them when I can search electronically for stuff in the book. There are lots of things that cross-reference, and I love being able to search electronically — beats the dog-eared pages!
