I'll just pass through again long enough to mention that we have a show on British TV called "The Tudors" and it is indeed about the celebs from those days - but it's been filmed like it's a soap :-) It seems to be gaining a reputation not for historical accuracy but for hysterical inaccuracy - contemporary objects and landscape features are frequently seen in backgrounds and so forth. Have a look, but students of the era might find they learn more about contemporary values than any Tudor ones.

I'm just passing through here but I'll pause to mention that I sit here about a mile from Hampton Court, Much of which was built by Cardinal Wolsey and of course it was annexed later by Henry the Eighth. My postcode is KT8 9LH - put that into Google Earth and then draw back... I'm next door to the Palace from your perspectives. I'm really fortunate, every time I go over Hampton Court view right there is one of the best views in the world. You probably won't know that there's a secret tunnel 8 feet high that leads miles away from the castle, that height being the height of a man on horseback, for those days anyway. They lived in dangerous days back then... anyway, ask me anything about it if you want :-)

I used to read a lot about the Tudors as well. Fascinating time in history filled with truly larger than life people.

I find this time in English history interesting as well. Catherine was only fourteen years old when she married the Duke of Suffolk. She was originally bethrothed to the Dukes son, Henry. When the Dukes wife Mary, sister of Henry VIII, died, he broke his sons bethrothal and married Catherine himself. His son Henry died the next year.

Good review. I always enjoy reading about the Tudors.

Katherine Parr and Thomas Seymour had (or almost had) a relationship prior to her marriage to Henry VIII. There was some flirtation between the two then Henry made his intentions for Parr known, and Seymour moved to the side.

Parr and Seymour married quite soon after Henry's death, and she gave birth to a daughter. Parr died in childbirth.

(I just finished several non-fiction books by Alison Weir. That's where I got my info.)

As an aside, I'm loving reacquainting myself with the Tudors. This was my favorite part of English history.
