As Jan said, when Jane first mentioned the book to all of us, we were eager to try it. And from our responses and grades you can see that it's going to work for some and not all.

I thought Jan's insight that the book was written in the style of a Japanese book was cool and I can certainly see that. I guess my feeling that I didn't see below the surface of most of the characters is maybe because of the restrained POV. But as an American reader, I ended up wanting to see more of these characters than I got.

I really liked how we got to see 3 different perspectives on this one book today :) Having read many novels from the viewpoint of an american abroad, it would be interesting to see the opposite side too I'm sure

The concept of this book seems to have piqued my interests. It would be interesting to see the world from the perspective of some one who finds American culture fascinating. And I have always loved pastries!

This book sounds interesting--not just for the dessert descriptions, although it helps. :)

thoughtful review. the title and cover art are clever, the fact that it is the main female character rather than male with the iffy immigration status, and the fact that i personally haven't read many japanese characters outside of deep and weighty WWII tales would all encourage me to read this story.
