That makes a lot of sense - though I always tell my husband NOT to buy me books because to me it's a lot like buying clothes - you don't really know what I like/want/fits and in the end I'm just going to have to take it back. *g*

One of my bookseller friends told me that the big names, like Nora's, sell very well during the holiday season because the gift buyers recognize those names. She would have sons and boyfriends and husbands come in and buy those because they recognized the name as one that their SO had read before.

As for the drop offs, I didn't do a list last week (weak from the tryptophan) so there is a greater representation.

I am surprised Eloisa James didn't place higher. I thought the cover was lovely and the fact that it was a 'christmas' novel really appealed to me. Maybe people ARE getting tired of the ensemble thing. Who knows.

I'm also surprised at how much stuff dropped out of the list. And that Katie Macalister's new one didn't last longer. Huh. All of those on the list are old favorites and all the newbies dropped off the list.

So does this mean that when holiday crunch time hits, people spend their money only on the perennial authors (IE Nora) rather than give the new kids a try?
