Author of Fabricated Memoir, James Frey, Signs with HarperCollins for His Next Memoir. No details as to wether it’s made up.

According to the NY Times, James Frey has sold his second memoir to Harper Collins for an undisclosed sum of money. I would think that HarperCollins would fact check the heck out of the second memoir, “Bright Shiny Morning”, but whether the public will buy it remains to be seen. Via NY Times.

Sony Insults Librarians; Moves to Cut off Nose

image from jdawg. Sony has a new ad campaign presumably to stir excitement about the next generation of Sony Readers likely to debut this fall. It’s slogan is “Sexier than a Librarian.” Now having seen SuperLibrarian, Wendy, in her slinky black halter dress this summer, I can certainly say that no electronic device is sexier [...]

His most recent book, Giving: How Each of Us Can Change the World, debuts at number 1. Despite last week being a big release [...]

REVIEW: Riding the Storm by Sydney Croft

REVIEW: Riding the Storm by Sydney Croft

Dear Ms. Croft: I really wanted to like this book. I like the publishing house. I met the authors behind the psuedonym (Larissa Ione and Stephanie Tyler) and they seem totally great. Unfortunately, nothing in this story actually worked for me. The book opens with a heavy sexual overtone and never relents. Riding the Storm [...]

REVIEW: The Birth of Blue Satan by Patricia Wynn

Dear Mrs Wynn, After having written about traditional 10 regencies, you’ve now started a new historical series set in 1715 England in which the politics and society of the day play a prominent role. I’m going to steal a review done at amazon.com: “Pat Wynn is a proven master at the Regency mystery genre. Her [...]

Cormac McCarrthy, The Road, won best general fiction title of the year and Nora Roberts walked away with the best romance. The lack of surprise in the Quill Award winners is rendering me sleepy. Bookseller Sells Collection of Books; Retires Thanks to the Church’s Undervaluing the Collection

This article tickled my fancy. Apparently, the Church of England approved the sale of hundreds of old Bibles and manuscripts to John Thornton, a small bookshop owner in Chelsea, West London for 36,000 pounds. Thornton, in turn, resold the religious collection for more than 500,000 pounds and plans to retire to the country with his [...]

Gather Contestant Declares Her Book to Be Man Friendly

Gather Contestant Declares Her Book to Be Man Friendly

This morning I received a delightful link to Men’s Activism.org. The contributor of the article is Trudy W Schuett who is out trolling the net for supporters of her writing competition entry at Gather.com. Her schtick is that she will promote men’s issues through the romance novel. I've always had unusual ideas for promoting men's [...]

REVIEW: September Release – Strength of the Wolf by Jorrie Spencer

REVIEW: September Release – Strength of the Wolf by Jorrie Spencer

Dear Ms. Spencer: I’ve come to the conclusion that you are a careful, thoughtful author. This book may not be for everyone because it is a quiet book, but it contains detailed characters who are both flawed with a compelling and a fresh new look at the werewolf mythology. This book was unusual, from the [...]

REVIEW: Fairyville by Emma Holly

Dear Ms. Holly: Your new erotica release, Fairyville, is vintage Holly. The heroine, Zoe, is a woman with a big heart and an unsatisfied love life. The heroes, all three of them, have various obstacles to their ultimate happiness in love, none of which include a lack of available sexual opportunities. Through various mix and [...]

Love and Lust

Love and Lust

Up until this weekend I was one of those readers who didn't really care that I couldn't articulate the difference between erotica and erotically charged Romance. "I know it when I see it–? was good enough for me. Then I read Emma Holly's newest release Fairyville and had one of those DUH! moments –" you [...]
